Click on the FIBER tab see fiber from the animals we raise and fiber blends. We use Angora, Alpaca, Merino, and other breeds of sheep wool, as well as fibers blended with silk and other exotic fibers. We can also work with you to make custom color and fiber blends.
Under YARN and CUSTOM YARN are samples of yarn currently available and samples of yarn that can be custom spun. Please contact us if you are looking for a specific yarn.
SUPERWASH MERINO FIBER and YARN is from merino wool that has been treated to resist shrinking and felting. Most colors have been commercially dyed and then we card the colors together to make our unique color blends.
My Daughter and I started The Ranches Angora almost 15 years ago when we started raising and showing french and satin angora rabbits. We later learned how to spin the beautiful angora fiber into yarn and it started a love of all things fiber related. Over the years we have added merino sheep and alpacas to our herd, and our animals have continued to provide us with soft fiber and good companionship.
None of our animals are harmed in anyway when we harvest their fiber. The sheep and alpacas are sheared every one to two years and we keep the sheep in special jackets to keep the wool clean. The angoras go through a natural molt every three to four months, and the loose fiber is collected by hand.

Angora Rabbits
There are four breeds of Angora rabbits, Giant, Satin, French, and English. We raise three of the four breeds, Giant, Satin, and French. The rabbits all have a different look and type of wool. The Giant is the largest and has 3 types of hair that make up their coat. The fiber is beautiful to spin and creates a soft halo to the finished garment The Satin has a sheen to their coats, like satin material. The French has beautiful color and excellent halo.
